So many people feel that they can´t make a difference; that one person doing one thing isn’t going to affect a global issue. The world’s population and the world’s issues seem so grand that we think it won’t matter if we recycle, it won’t matter if we protest, it won’t matter if we have a great idea: because in the grand scheme of things, the little things don’t really matter.

Well, that’s wrong, and this article from the World Economic Forum proves exactly why. The key is recognizing that it is not about that one person or that one action: it’s about creating a culture of consciousness where the addition of all these persons and all these things amount to real change. One action becomes part of something extraordinary.

This article features some truly amazing people from all over the world who have done their part. A hundred people doing their part adds up to a whole lot of change. More importantly, it adds up to a movement of people, to a shift in culture and behavior. A shift where we’re all activists, we’re all game-changers, we’re all conscious about our planet and other people and we all do our part. And when we all do our part that’s when real change happens.

To some people, working towards making the oil and gas industry more environmentally friendly might seem like a futile endeavor. The progress made in the energy industry on many fronts, developing new technology and methods for the future is fantastic, but it isn’t enough. The world will not be ready to leave behind oil and gas for several years, as our societies’ lifestyle could not be sustained without it. So, working towards greener methods to support the transition certainly has a great value. It will not change the world, but it will definitely aid the process.

So next time you think some idea or some action just isn’t enough, just remember the big picture. Every action towards a purpose counts, no matter how big or small.
