I find this article from Oil Price quite accurate, and not only in relation to the oil industry. Today, a company’s most important feature is its ability to adapt, to innovate, to focus on constantly growing. With our current climate, simply focusing on money is not enough. The competition is tough and so are the stakes. Right now we need to be thinking about value beyond money, we need to be thinking about growth, about the future, about our legacy, about leaving the world in a better state than the one we find ourselves in.
The real role of oil is to sustain our society’s lifestyle, to provide energy and life for our modern processes. If the industry truly wishes to maintain this intrinsic goal, it necessarily needs to adapt. Even though its need is recognized, the oil industry has garnered a nasty image of the power and money-hungry magnate, and that’s not as it should be. We need to work towards reminding the public that the sector can evolve towards this original goal and diverge from the path it is on to rescue the premise that it can bring something good to our society.
While it is unfortunately true that some aspects of the industry are detrimental to the climate rescue path, it doesn’t mean that it’s all black and white. It doesn’t have to be ‘we either trash the planet or we save it absolutely’. There is a middle ground, there’s compromise. Most importantly there need to be companies and agents willing to put in the work and come up with ideas for this compromise. Which will in return add much more value to a company and the industry in general than just making the big bucks.
However, as the article points out, we can’t disregard the need for profitability. All of this evolution talk sounds quite beautiful and aspirational, but companies still need money to stay alive. So finding cost-effective solutions is also a big priority.
That was our way of thought, at Nakasawa. We figured out a way to work with what we already had and made it better. With our cutting edge technology, we make oil recovery processes more efficient, more cost-effective and more environmentally responsible. Our technology is proof that this compromise is achievable, that our industry is capable of growth, evolution and adaptation. We are willing to put in the work to get rid of the big bad wolf reputation and help along our transition towards more sustainable energy processes. Are you?
